Welcome to Our "Marvelous Music & Movement" Month!
Get ready for a month filled with rhythm and fun! March is all about “Marvelous Music & Movement,” and we are so excited to guide your toddlers as they explore the world of sound, song, and dance. Throughout the month, we will be clapping, stomping, singing, and using simple instruments to foster a love for music while developing their motor skills and listening abilities.
Our musical journey will begin with discovering sounds all around us and creating our own simple rhythms. Then, we’ll move on to exploring different instruments and finding our singing voices. Next, we’ll get our bodies moving with creative dance and fun directional games. We will end the month by putting everything together, making music as a group and celebrating all the new ways we’ve learned to express ourselves!
Here’s a glimpse of what your toddler will be experiencing:
Week 1: March 2nd - 6th (Focus: Exploring Sounds & Rhythm)
- Developing Sound Awareness: Toddlers will be encouraged to listen for and identify various sounds within their daily environment.
- Exploring Body Percussion: Your child will discover the joy of making music with their own body by clapping, patting, and stomping to a beat.
- Imitating Simple Rhythms: We will focus on developing listening skills as toddlers learn to imitate simple rhythmic patterns.
- Discovering Sound Creation: Your toddler will have opportunities to explore how different objects and materials can be used to create a variety of sounds.
Week 2: March 9th - 13th (Focus: Exploring Instruments & Singing)
- Introduction to Instruments: We will introduce a variety of simple musical instruments, allowing toddlers to see, touch, and hear them.
- Exploring Pitch and Tone: Your child will explore the different sounds instruments can make, including the concepts of high and low sounds, through gentle, hands-on play.
- Finding the Singing Voice: We will encourage toddlers to discover and practice using their singing voices through simple songs and vocal play.
- Fostering Musical Creativity: Your toddler’s creativity will be nurtured as they are encouraged to construct their own unique sound-making objects.
Week 3: March 16th - 19th (Focus: Creative Movement & Following Directions)
- Whole-Body Expression: The focus will be on expressing feelings and ideas through creative, whole-body movement and dance.
- Responding to Music: Toddlers will learn to move their bodies in different ways, such as fast, slow, high, and low, in response to musical cues.
- Developing Listening Skills: We will practice following simple, one-step verbal instructions within fun, movement-based games.
- Enhancing Coordination: Your child will enhance their coordination and self-expression by using simple props to inspire movement.
Week 4 & 5: March 23rd - 31st (Focus: Making Music Together & Review)
- Music in Our World: We will help toddlers develop an understanding that music and interesting sounds are all around us, both indoors and out.
- Cooperative Musical Play: Your child will experience the fun of making music as part of a group, fostering early social skills like listening and taking turns.
- Connecting with Nature: We will foster a connection to the natural world by discovering the different sounds that can be found and made outdoors.
- Joyful Review: The month will conclude by reinforcing key concepts through our favorite songs and musical games, building a positive foundation for future learning.
