Toddlers

Welcome to Our "Brilliant Builders & Big Buildings" Month!

This November, our toddlers are transforming into “Brilliant Builders”! Our theme, “Brilliant Builders & Big Buildings”, is all about exploring the exciting world of construction in a hands-on, safe, and fun way. Your little ones will be discovering different materials, learning about balance through stacking, exploring the idea of homes, and practicing teamwork with their friends.

This month’s theme will provide a rich environment for your toddler to develop a wide range of essential skills. Through hands-on exploration with various building materials, your child will enhance their fine motor coordination and sensory awareness. As they engage in stacking and construction, they will be building their problem-solving abilities, spatial reasoning, and an early understanding of cause and effect. Our activities are also designed to foster crucial social-emotional growth, encouraging teamwork, communication, and perseverance. It will be a month of not just building structures, but also building confidence and foundational skills for future learning.

Here’s a glimpse of what your toddler will be experiencing:

Week 1: November 4th - 7th (Focus: Introduction to Building & Materials)
  • Sensory Exploration: Your toddler will investigate various materials in our sensory bins, including large, soft blocks and smooth wooden pieces, learning to differentiate textures.
  • Stacking & Building: We will practice basic stacking with large, safe blocks and Duplo bricks, celebrating our successes when we build them up and knock them down gently.
  • Creative Expression: Toddlers will engage in simple art projects, like gluing large paper shapes onto a bigger sheet, to express their creativity.
Week 2: November 10th - 14th (Focus: Structure & Balance)
  • Exploring Balance: We will discover the concept of balance by stacking blocks on stable surfaces versus wobbly ones (like a cushion) and trying to balance on one foot with our teachers’ support.
  • Tower Building: Using stacking cups, soft blocks, and stacking rings, toddlers will challenge themselves to build towers as high as they can.
  • Simple Bridges: Your little one will have fun pushing toy cars over simple “bridges” made of a flat block placed between two supports.
Week 3: November 17th - 21st (Focus: Homes & Buildings Around Us)
  • What is a Home?: We will explore the concept of “home” by playing inside large cardboard box houses, looking at pictures of different homes, and scribbling on house-shaped paper.
  • Building Houses: Toddlers will use large blocks to build simple enclosures and structures that look like houses.
  • Decorating: Using crayons and stickers, the children will get to decorate their own paper or small box “houses.”
Week 4: November 25th - 28th (Focus: Tools & Teamwork)
  • Exploring Tools: Your toddler will handle large, safe toy tools like soft hammers and plastic wrenches, practicing building motions in a safe environment.
  • Hammering Practice: Using toy hammers, children will get to pound large plastic pegs into a foam board, practicing their coordination.
  • Building Together: We will foster teamwork by encouraging toddlers to pass blocks back and forth with a partner or teacher as they build together.

We are looking forward to a brilliant month of building and discovery with your toddlers!
