December

Toddlers

Welcome to Our "Sparkling Skies & Snowy Scenes" Month!

December is here, and we’re diving into a magical winter wonderland with our theme, “Sparkling Skies & Snowy Scenes”! Your toddlers will have a wonderful time exploring all things winter through their senses. We’ll be focusing on cold weather, cozy feelings, winter animals, and lots of sparkly crafts. Our activities are designed to be hands-on and fun, perfect for curious little learners.

Here’s a glimpse of what your toddler will be experiencing:

Week 1: December 1st - 5th (Focus: Introduction to Winter & Cold)

  • Sensory Exploration: Your toddler will use their sense of touch to explore the concept of “cold” and different wintery textures, helping to build descriptive vocabulary.
  • Developing Self-Awareness & Practical Skills: We will focus on identifying winter clothing and understanding why we wear it, connecting this to their own self-care routines.
  • Creative Expression: Through hands-on art, your child will have opportunities to represent their ideas about snow and winter.
  • Learning About the World: We will introduce different animals that live in cold environments, fostering an early appreciation for nature.
  • Exploring Light and Shadow: Your toddler will begin to understand basic scientific concepts through playful observation of light and shadows.
Week 2: December 8th - 12th (Focus: Ice, Frost & Winter Sparkle)
  • Observing Physical Properties: We will investigate the basic properties of ice, such as its temperature and texture, through safe, supervised water play.
  • Artistic Creation: Your toddler will explore how different materials can be used to create art that looks like frost and ice.
  • Visual Tracking & Discovery: We will encourage visual discrimination and focus as children search for and interact with shiny, sparkly objects.
  • Cooperative Play: Your child will practice social skills like sharing space and ideas as we work together to build a large, cozy den.
  • Fine Motor Development: We will strengthen fine motor skills by creating art with various tactile and sparkly materials.
Week 3: December 15th - 19th (Focus: Winter Patterns & Making Things)
  • Early Math Skills: Your toddler will be introduced to the concept of patterns through sorting and arranging winter-themed shapes.
  • Developing Coordination: We will focus on hand-eye coordination and fine motor control through simple threading activities.
  • Fostering Creativity & Giving: Children will express themselves by creating their own decorations and simple cards, fostering a sense of pride and the joy of making things for others.
  • Exploring Scents: We will engage the sense of smell by exploring a variety of safe, pleasant, winter-related scents.
Week 4: December 22nd - 24th (Focus: Winter Favorites & Wrap-Up)
  • Reinforcing Concepts Through Play: In our short week, we will revisit favorite sensory and creative activities to reinforce the month’s themes.
  • Memory & Language Recall: We will encourage toddlers to remember and talk about the new ideas and objects they have learned about all month long.
  • Developing Responsibility: Your child will feel a sense of accomplishment and community by helping to tidy up our classroom and pack away their beautiful work to take home.

We are looking forward to a delightful month of discovery with your toddlers!
