January
Toddlers
Welcome to Our "Helpful Heroes & Happy Homes" Month!
Happy New Year! This January, our theme is “Helpful Heroes & Happy Homes.” We will embark on a wonderful journey exploring our families, friendships, and the amazing people who help us in our community. Your toddler will engage in fun, hands-on activities that introduce them to concepts of family, cooperation, and community in a way they can understand.
Throughout the month, our goal is to help your toddler develop a greater sense of belonging and awareness of the world around them. We will focus on fostering early social skills, understanding simple concepts about home and community, and introducing the idea of being a “helper” in our classroom and family. Our activities are designed to be playful and engaging, allowing your little one to learn through exploration and discovery.
Here’s a glimpse of what your toddler will be experiencing:
Week 1: January 5th - 9th (Focus: My Family & Our Homes)
-
Developing a Sense of Family: Toddlers will begin to explore the concept of family, learning vocabulary for different family members and developing a stronger sense of their own place within their family unit.
-
Exploring Homes & Structures: Through hands-on construction play, your toddler will develop gross motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and spatial awareness as they explore the basic concepts of building and structure.
-
Creative & Sensory Home Exploration: Your child will use various art materials and sensory experiences to represent their idea of a home, helping to solidify their understanding of this important concept.
Week 2: January 13th - 16th (Focus: Friendship & Cooperation)
-
Understanding Friendship: We will introduce the foundations of friendship by encouraging gentle social interactions, sharing, and observing kind behaviors among peers.
-
Developing Cooperative Play: Your toddler will be guided through partner and group activities that foster early teamwork and communication skills, helping them learn to work towards a shared goal.
-
Expressing Friendship Creatively: We will provide opportunities for toddlers to create and share simple gifts, promoting positive peer relationships and the joy of giving.
Week 3: January 19th - 23rd (Focus: Community Helpers - Doctors & Firefighters)
-
Exploring the Role of Doctors: Through imaginative play, toddlers will be introduced to the role of doctors as caring helpers, fostering a sense of comfort and familiarity with health and wellness routines.
-
Discovering Firefighters: Your child will build an awareness of firefighters and their important job in keeping our community safe through exploratory play and engaging, themed activities.
-
Learning Basic Safety Concepts: We will introduce simple, reassuring safety practices in an age-appropriate way and use creative expression to reinforce our learning about community helpers.
Week 4: January 26th - 30th (Focus: More Helpers & Our Neighborhood)
-
Understanding Community Roles: We will broaden your toddler’s understanding of the world around them by introducing more community helpers, such as postal workers, through pretend play.
-
Appreciating School Helpers: Toddlers will develop an appreciation for helpers within our own school community, like teachers and librarians, and practice important classroom routines such as caring for books.
-
Exploring Our Neighborhood: We will foster a sense of belonging and community by working together to build a representation of a neighborhood, helping toddlers understand how different places and people connect.
We are looking forward to a heroic month of discovery with your toddlers!
